Jill Beale was raised in Ho-Ho-Kus, a small Native American farming village in New Jersey. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Art and Social Change from New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study, where she concentrated in studio art, contemporary art theory, psychology, and philosophy. While receiving a Master of Arts in Media Studies and Film from the New School University, Jill worked as the director of a youth video program, an assistant photo editor for RES Magazine, and an assistant editor on a number of documentaries. As Co-Founder (along with Eve Ekman) of The Institute for Integrative Interruption, Ms. Beale utilizes film, video, photography, installation and performance in an effort to explore the effects of disruptive public art on an urban population. Her works in video, photography and installation are unified by their quest to seek out the greater ironies and mysteries of the universe.
